One of the most important problems in our developing world, perhaps the most important, is environmental pollution. To prevent the environmental pollution caused by human activity, the adverse effects of those activities must be brought under control and solutions must be found at source.

Odour pollution is a concept that has entered our lives in Türkiye and worldwide after those of air pollution, noise pollution, environmental pollution and visual pollution. Monitoring odour concentration, which matters a great deal for public health and public peace, and sustaining the measures taken, are both essential.

To prevent odour pollution, the "Regulation on the Control of Odour-Causing Emissions" was published and entered into force within Türkiye's environmental legislation. This regulation covers environmental impact assessment, environmental inspection and the assessment of complaints. It thereby covers the procedures and sanctions relating to identifying and resolving odour problems following odour measurement and analysis.

Alka Laboratories carries out odour pollution assessment at source and in the ambient environment using an olfactometer. With the olfactometer, an odorous gas sample is diluted with neutral air at specific and varying ratios, presented to measurement panellists, and the odour concentration is determined.

Alka Laboratories identifies the organic and inorganic chemicals that cause odour pollution and, based on the resulting data, produces odour pollution dispersion modelling and maps. We also take part in joint projects with universities and public institutions.

Areas we serve within odour pollution;

  • Measurement of odour pollution originating from facilities
  • Identification of organic and inorganic chemicals causing odour pollution
  • Creation of odour pollution dispersion maps
